Want Anti-Aging? Strength Train Your Muscles

No matter our age we are always capable of building muscle, the key is strength training!

What is the main goal of strength training?

The general definition of strength training is any physical movement in which you use your body weight or resistance to build muscle mass (hypertrophy), strength, and endurance.

Imagine a simple, yet powerful way to enhance your health, longevity, and quality of life…the answer is to strength train. Beyond making you stronger and preserving your function as you age, muscle mass plays a vital role in our overall survival. While many people focus on losing excess fat for better health, they often overlook the equally critical need for maintaining sufficient muscle mass. Lean muscle mass is not just about aesthetics, it is crucial to our overall health, physical capability and longevity.

Benefits of increased muscle mass:

  1. Reduce the risk of mortality
  2. Improved glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity
  3. Increased basal metabolic rate
  4. Improve prognostic in many patients
  5. Enhanced physical function and reduced injury risk
  6. Protection against sarcopenia
  7. Prevention against heart disease
  8. In addition to building strength and muscle mass, you will also slow the aging of your brain, blood vessels and bones!

Skeletal muscle, which consists of about 600 muscles and is the largest organ by mass in the human body, plays a vital role in managing blood sugar levels and enhancing insulin sensitivity. After eating, these muscles help clear about 80% of the sugar from the bloodstream, which is crucial for maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

What is the hardest age to build muscle?

Changing hormones makes building muscle after 40yrs more difficult. While men start experiencing a gradual decline in muscle-building testosterone in their 30s, this hormonal change is more abrupt for women once they hit menopause. But the great news is men and women can regain some of that lost muscle mass and more importantly, stay strong enough to enjoy youthful activities well into their later years with the right training and nutrition. The biggest key is strength training!

Review:

I have loved having Rachel as a PT. She is knowledge and a lovely person, and always makes the gym fun.
I never thought I wanted to go to a gym or have a personal trainer, but Form fitness has been excellent for me. After an injury, I had to change my usual exercise habits and so came to this gym. Rachel helped me find things that not only worked for me with my injury, but made my whole body stronger and helped me identify exercises as well as habits I could change to improve my health overall. I am now stronger than I ever was before my injury and have the skills to keep on track. I would recommend this gym.
